Why We Chose Potholes
Solar Revenge invited Jim Ott to come and speak to our Four Leaf 4-H Club. Jim Ott is a retired Milwaukee area meteorologist and currently a Wisconsin State Assemblyman. He spoke about climate in Wisconsin, climate change, and addressed local climate issues.
Mr. Ott's opinion is that potholes are one of the costliest climate problems we have in our SE Wisconsin freeze and thaw winters.

Our team brainstormed several climate problems in our area:

  • Potholes from freeze/thaw cycle
  • Tourism
  • Ice on roads
  • Ice on powerlines
  • Short growing season
  • Local flooding
  • Summer dry season
  • SAD (Seasonal Affective Disorder)
  • Mold
  • One solution: Having all white roofs
  • Global problem: Global dimming

We decided on potholes because Jim Ott's discussion gave us a lot of information we could use. We narrowed our research to four topics. Then we decided on the potholes since we all liked it best.
